for this month grandma's kitchen table chose gingerbread cupcakes with cookie cut-outs. thank goodness the cookies were optional :) i decided to go with a simple confectionary sugar glaze, some yellow sprinkles and a piece of cystalized ginger...by the way...has anyone ever tasted that stuff, man is it strong (and kind of yucky) but very pretty sitting on top of a cupcake :) anyhow, the cupcake was delicious (after i took off the ginger) and the simple glaze was the perfect touch.

martha stewart cupcakes club-sweet potato!

first of all, i must apologize for posting a day late, but i have a good excuse...apparently, i still live in the stone age! i've recently moved to a rather rural part of vermont and the town does not have the internet yet...yes, you heard me right, does not have the internet. comcast has dug the lines (we know this for sure or we wouldn't have bought the house) but they just haven't "turned it on" yet. so, i've been almost 2 months without internet (except for my breaks at work, one of which i'm on now).
okay, now for the cupcakes...i like sweet potatoes, i like cupcakes, so i knew this cupcake was going to be tasty and it was. the marshmallows worked out perfectly...i was going to make marshmallow buttercream, since i've never broiled anything in my life and was kind of nervous about that, but i decided to give it a go...however, i almost burned the marshmallows trying to great a good shot of them in the oven.
but, they turned out pretty great and they were so yummy!

i halved the recipe and got 30 mini cupcakes...cause mini is how i roll...

winter farmers' markets...

now that the summer season has come to a close, i bet you're wondering where to get my little cupcakes this winter! well, you will be able to get your cupcakes at the williston and winooski winter farmers' markets in the coming weeks. i will be at the williston winter market (located in the cafeteria at the williston central school) on november 14th, december 12th, february 13th, march 13th and april 10th, and at the winooski winter market (located at the o'brien community center on malletts bay ave) on november 28th, december 5th and december 19th. so mark your calendars as i'll be having some yummy new flavors :)

msc club-pumpkin patch cupcakes!

i bought the martha stewart cupcake recipe book the day it was released...i mean, went out on my lunch break and paid full price for it at barnes and noble because i didn't want to wait for it to ship through amazon :) so, when i found out there was a group baking and blogging their way through the book, i couldn't wait to join! the first recipe (since i was accepted into the group) is for the pumpkin patch cupcakes. i had made these cupcakes the week before i was accepted into the club for a harvest fair, they were really yummy. i decided to make them again for my last summer farmers' market, and they were a hit there as well.

i followed martha's recipe as written, except i added mini chocolate chips...for some reason pumpkin chocolate chip sounds yummier than plain ol' pumpkin.

i really love the way these cupcakes rise up high!

this is the finished product. i didn't make the little marzipan pumpkins since i was making them for the farmers' market and didn't have time to make 54, but these little candy pumpkins worked out well. plus, i didn't make the cream cheese frosting as indicated in the recipe, i made a pumpkin pie spiced buttercream. it was delicious!

the recipe says that you'll get 32 cupcakes, but i halved it and got 54 mini cupcakes (since mini is how i roll :)

fauxtess--my take on the hostess cupcake--chocolate cupcake with a vanilla cream center dipped in chocolate ganache and topped with a vanilla cream swirl;

dirt--chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting sprinkled with crushed oreos and topped with a gummy worm;

vanilla squared--vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream and in the halloween spirit topped with a plastic spider ring;

pumpkin chocolate chip-pumpkin chocolate chip cupcake topped with a pumpkin spice buttercream.

my first and only tiered cake...

see this cake? it's kinda pretty, right? well, this cake is the reason i don't make tiered cakes, ever. this cake took 9 hours to make, and i probably said the f-word more times while making this cake than i ever have in my entire life. people naturally assume i make cake, since i have a cupcake business, but this cake is the reason i don't...i just don't have the patience, and i admire anyone who does!

martha stewart's cupcakes club!

i'm so excited! i just got accepted into the martha stewart's cupcakes club. you wanna know the details, huh? well, every month someone in the club will choose one cupcake recipe from the martha stewart cupcake recipe book. by the 15th of every month, everyone in the group will bake and blog about the experience, plus there are going to be bonus recipes and contests...sounds fun, doesn't it? i know, i'm super excited! the first cupcake recipe is for pumpkin patch cupcakes (i actually made these already on saturday for the colchester harvest fair), but i'll be making them again this week for the williston farmers' market. you should check out the club; it's going to be so much fun to be a part of this group and bake and blog.

colchester harvest moon fair

my little cupcake will be at the colchester harvest moon fair on sunday, october 4th from 10:30 till 4:30. it is being held at the creek farm plaza in colchester. there are a bunch of awesome vendors and music; it should be a lot of fun! i'm planning on making red velvet, cookies and cream, marbled and maybe pumpkin chocolate chip. i hope i'll see you there!

i'm buying a new house!

well, what i should say is that my boyfriend and i are buying a new house! i'm so excited; we close on tuesday. now, i'm also hesitate to say it out loud because our closing date has been moved twice already, and the buyer of my boyfriend place financing almost fell though, but as of right now, it is a go...
i love this house! i mean, love this house! it's my dream house because it is a comtemporary...i love how it isn't just a square house. i think it's perfect.

anyhow, i am moving next week...packing sunday and monday and moving tuesday and unpacking wednesday and thursday. you know what this means? i can't take any special orders next week. i will still be at the williston farmers' market this saturday and next saturday, but i can't fill any orders thoughout the week. and because of the article in the champlain business journal, i've already had to say no to 4 people who have called or emailed me asking for cupcakes for next week. it bums me out...i don't like saying no, but...i'm moving into my dream house!

champlain business journal article!

the champlain business journal contacted me a couple of months ago to write an article about my little cupcake for (i was told) the october issue. i picked up the september issue tonight while at the grocery store and was surprised to see my face on page 14. although i didn't expect it to be there, it is a really nice article about my little cupcake. if you happen to pick up the september issue of the champlain business journal, you can read the article on pages 13 and 14 (under open for business).

it's good to be back!

it was great to be back at the farmers' market today...it rained a little, but the market was still quite busy. i made a bit more today than i usually do, and although i didn't sell out early, i did sell out by 2pm! i was talking to lucky lady and new duds (both vendores at the williston farmers market) today. we were discussing options for venues to sell during the winter months now that the summer season is coming to a close in a month or so...i'll keep you posted as to where you'll be able to get your cupcakes after the williston farmers' market closes for the season...stay tuned. peach cupcake with honey buttercream with a peach slice drizzled with honey!

i'm back from vacation!

i just got back from vacation today. my boyfriend's parents rented a condo at mytle beach and we flew down for a few days...while we were there, i visited 3 cupcake bakeries. the first one was in raleigh, north carolina. the cupcake shoppe was so cute and the vanilla cupcake was very good.
the photo below is from a bakery called baked. there is a baked bakery in brooklyn and one in charleston, south carolina (that's the one i visited.) the cupcakes were just okay...they are frosted with swiss meringue buttercream, and i am not a fan.

i will NOT be at the farmers' market this saturday (september 5th)

i'm going on vacation! i will be heading to north/south carolina on saturday so i will not be at the farmers' market. i do plan on attending on september 12th though, so make sure to come and see me then. i'm really excited about this mini-vacation because i'm visiting a few (4 to be exact) cupcake bakeries along the way. i'll make sure to take lots of photos of the shops and cupcakes so you can take a peek :) see you soon...

it didn't rain...too hard.

the last time that the weatherman predicted rain for the farmers' market, i made significantly less cupcakes than i usually do...and guess what, it didn't rain. so this week, even though there was a 100% chance for rain today, i decided to just go ahead and make as many as i do every other week. what's the worst that could happen? i'd just put them in the fridge and on monday, my co-workers would eat cold, not so moist cupcakes, but they would still be happy :) well, it's a good thing that i made as many as i did because people still want cupcakes even if it's sprinkling outside, even if you can't feel your toes...i sold out before noon and as i was driving away...it started to really rain.

despite today being an absolutely beautiful day, it was very quiet at the farmers' market. maybe it was too hot? and it was hot; but, i had a nice spot in the shade, and my buttercream held up quite nicely. i made these chocolate raspberry cupcakes with the raspberries that i picked at the boutin family farm...they were yummy in my tummy :)

i picked raspberries today after work at the boutin family farm in williston. i was the only one there, and it was so peaceful...the raspberry bushes go on and on and on...this means that i'll have chocolate raspberry cupcakes this weekend at the williston farmers' market.

beautiful weather at the williston farmers' market saturday

the weather was absolutely amazing yesterday at the farmers' market...it was a great day! i made these lemon raspberry cupcakes and they sold out in a flash...i'm going to have to make them again very soon, plus it gives me a reason to go raspberry picking again (which was so much fun!)

i also met some really sweet people at the chocolate walk in richmond. i love how excited people get over my cupcakes.

i went to the south burlington farmers' market today next to healthy living. i bought this syrup from dragonfly sugar works. the bottle is beautiful and the syrup is delicious! guess what i'll be making for next weeks farmers market...yup, maple-walnut bacon! yummmyy :)

great day at the williston farmers' market!

overall, i had a great day at the williston farmers market today. yes, it was windy, and yes, the duct tape fix on my umbrella didn't work, but i still had a great day. i sold out around 1:00, right before it started to rain, and this morning natalie stultz and her husband david, stopped by the farmers market to take photos of me and my little cupcakes for an article that is being written in the champlain business journel...it's so exiting! i can't wait to see the photo-the photos on her website are amazing! windy day at the williston farmers' market!

i wish i could say that i had a great day at the williston farmers' market today, but that is not the case! it was so windy...my umbrella broke when it turned inside out which, in turn, caused my buttercream to melt because i didn't have the shade from the umbrella. my signs kept blowing over, my tablecloth clips kept coming undone, and when the wind got under my tablecloth, the cake stands would shake back and forth...it was sooo stressful. thank you for everyone that came out today in spite of the weather!

it was very busy today at the williston farmers market! lots of people came out to see the parade, including my brother miles, his wife dana, and their sweet baby madison!
i made red and blue patriotic cupcakes, red velvet and blueberry.

the blueberry cupcakes were so good, but while i was bringing them to my car this morning, i slipped off the front porch while carrying two tins of blueberry cupcakes, ruining about 25 of them...it was so sad!

it's so great seeing the same people each week getting cupcakes. i've been meeting some really sweet people and having a lot of fun! we've been pretty lucky with the weather, but today we all got caught in a down-pour! my cupcakes stayed dry though :)

crazy cupcake week!

i'm going to have a few very crazy cupcake days for the rest of the week! i'm so happy to have been asked to do 360 cupcakes for a wedding this weekend...but, it also falls on a weekend where i already had a few birthday parties to do. don't get me wrong though, i'm super excited to have been asked to be a part of so many special occasions...still, 594 cupcakes in two days is going to be a sight to behold! i'll post pictures on saturday of it all :) xoxo

another great day at the williston farmers' market!

today was another fun day at the williston farmers' market; thank you everyone for coming out! although i didn't sell out today (i had 14 left), i did sell more than i did last week! and i did sell out of the maple walnut bacon. i think that it is so awesome that so many people were willing to give it a try, and that so many people were so excited about it! although there were a few people that did look at me strangely while saying, "is that bacon?" it was a definite hit, and i'll probably do it at least once again this summer. another hit today were the frosting shots! look for those every week from now on...

because of the farmers' market, i find myself checking the weather all of the time. so far, we've been pretty lucky at the farmers' market. the past 3 saturdays since we've opened have been pretty nice. but, I just checked this morning and they are calling for rain on saturday :( and this saturday i was planning on baking my maple walnut bacon cupcakes! oh, i'm still going to bake them, and they'll still be there, but i'm afraid not as many people will come out and get to experience their awesomeness because of the rain. well, i really hope that you still come out, and if it starts to rain we can all huddle under my umbrella :)

okay, i hate to do this, but i have to increase my cupcakes prices a bit. the cupcake baking takes a really, really long time (between 7-8 hours for 120 cupcakes, longer if i'm doing donuts and cookies to add to the top), plus the time at the market with set up and tear down...plus the costs of actual ingredients; well, the math just doesn't work. the thing is, i love baking cupcakes and being at the farmers' market so much, i'd probably do it for free, but if i'd like to make this my full time job one day and save up to open a cupcake bakery, i have to make a little money. i think that if i'm going to do it, i should do it now since the market just opened a couple of weeks ago. so, the new prices will be one cupcake=$1.25, 3 cupcakes=$3.50, 6 cupcakes=$6.50, and 12 cupcakes=$12.00. if you've ordered cupcakes from me for an upcoming event, this price increase does not apply :)

i made these graduation cupcakes for mary's daughter emily tonight. i had a great idea that didn't quite come out the way that i wanted it to...but they still turned out pretty :)

awesome day at the williston farmers market!

i'm both excited and disappointed about today at the farmers market. the good news is that i sold out, the bad news is that i sold out at 1230, and i was down to just 12 at 1145. you see, i look forward to saturday all week, and i actually didn't want to leave early. i baked about 2 dozen more than i did the last two weeks because of the article in seven days, but i had no idea that i'd sell out so quickly. it is so fun talking to people there and meeting new people. one girl said to me, "i was hoping you'd have the maple bacon," this means she's checked out my website! a few others said they're reading my blog. this is all so exciting!! everyone is so nice.

cupcake flavors for this saturday at the williston farmers' market will be: red velvet-red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting; cookies and cream-vanilla cupcake with oreo cookie crumbles with vanilla butter cream and a mini oreo on top; and neapolitan dynamite-vanilla and chocolate cupcake with strawberry butter cream topped with a fresh strawberry slice. i hope to see you there!

great day at the williston farmers' market!

i had a great day at the farmers' market today. it was so nice out and a bunch of my friends came by to support me. i sold all of my cupcakes except for a few vegan and a couple of cappucinno. i feel badly, but i don't think i'm going to make a vegan cupcake everyweek. there doesn't really seem to be a demand for them. however, i will still offer them to people who want to order them in advance to pick up at the market.
